Top Tips and Tricks for Using Your Whiteboard Wallcovering or Paint

Organisation 

The addition of a whiteboard surface to your office means less clutter and mess, allowing you to streamline your workspace. 

There’s no need for bundles of papers and charts everywhere, instead just write your ideas and plans directly to the wall and erase after. 

A writable surface will also motivate you and your colleagues to stand up and work on the wall throughout the day as sitting at a desk for hours on end can reduce your energy levels. Give each team member a marker so they can add their contribution to the wall, this will get everyone’s circulation and creative juices flowing!

Customise Your Surface  

Having an entire wall to write upon can be overwhelming when it’s needed for various purposes. If you need to section off parts of your surface, we recommend using whiteboard markers to clearly segment different areas of your whiteboard.

Dividing your whiteboard surface into sections for specific aspects, such as brainstorming, is very beneficial. It can motivate colleagues to be more focused with their thoughts. It’s also good to have part of your whiteboard set aside to jot down any random ideas throughout the day.

Delegation

It’s important to share the workload evenly amongst your team to ensure no one becomes overwhelmed or burns out.
At the beginning of each week, set out the tasks and deadlines on your whiteboard wall for the week ahead. This allows you to delegate responsibilities clearly and efficiently to your team. Use different coloured markers to identify teams and updates.

Write Big

You’ll be used to writing on a sheet of paper in front of you, but remember, you now have an entire wall! Make sure your writing is clear and legible for your colleagues.

Don’t be afraid to write in capital letters (no one will think you’re yelling, promise) and underline key words to make points more legible and easier to understand. You can also write the more important points in different colours to make them stand out more.   

Bring Colour to Your Workspace

Use different coloured markers to schedule various categories of tasks or meetings on your surface. This will not only make your plan more aesthetically pleasing but more organised and easier to read at a glance.

Despite common belief that doodling is a bad distraction, research has shown that it can actually be beneficial. This study showed that those doodling were able to retain information better than those who don’t doodle.

Photograph Your Ideas 

During meetings not everyone may have ideas or share their thoughts, that’s where a whiteboard wall will benefit you, as everyone can jot down ideas throughout the meeting and or day.

To ensure all ideas are shared, take a photo of the wall at the end of the day or during key moments of meetings and brainstorming sessions. Upload these photos to a shared drive for everyone in the office to look at and refer back to when needed.

Maintenance 

It’s crucial that you look after your whiteboard walls and use the correct products to keep your surfaces in top condition.

Regularly cleaning your whiteboard will eliminate the potential for ghosting and the appearance of dirt on your surface. For the removal of stubborn stains and permanent ink, use our Permanent Ink Remover Spray. However, we don’t recommend this product for daily cleaning, instead use our Whiteboard Cleaning Spray for daily upkeep. 

As an alternative you make your own cleaning spray with vinegar. Mix equal parts of water and vinegar to create your homemade whiteboard cleaning solution.
