FAQ's
General Product Questions
What kind of projectors are compatible with ALR screen paint?
ALR screen paint is suitable for projectors that have a brightness of 2000 lumens or more.
Application & Usage
What personal protective gear should I wear while painting?
Wear the gloves included in the kit when applying ALR paint. Additionally, it is advisable to wear safety glasses. As with any painting activity, ensure that the area is well-ventilated.
Can ALR Paint be used for refurbishing existing screens?
ALR Paint can be applied to fabrics and used for refurbishing existing screens. Not suitable for roll-up screens.
Surface Prep & Priming
Do I need to apply a primer before using Projector Paints?
We advise that you apply ALR screen paint onto a surface that has been previously primed or painted. For bare, untreated surfaces, start with one coat of White Primer.
Cleaning & Maintenance
How can I remove the paint from my skin?
If contact with the skin occurs, wash the area with warm soapy water.
If I accidentally spill paint, what should I do?
Ambient Light Rejecting paint is water-based and can be cleaned up using water.
What is the best way to clean my ambient light reflecting projector screen?
The ideal method is to use compressed air, which is available in aerosol cans, or gently wipe the ALR painted surface with a soft cloth dampened with warm water. No detergent required.
Functionality & Performance
How does the ambient light rejecting screen paint work?
This innovative Ambient Light Rejecting Projection Screen Paint uses unique pigment particle technology to scatter ambient light ingress from the horizontal plane, which protects the projected light beam by reducing light interference.
What does gain value mean, and how does it affect projector screen performance?
Gain value describes how much projected light a screen reflects to the viewer compared to a standard matt white surface (gain 1.0). Higher gain increases brightness but narrows the viewing angle, while lower gain offers wider viewing angles with more uniform brightness. The ideal gain depends on ambient light levels, projector brightness, screen size, and seating position.
What is the gain value of ALR projection paint?
The gain value of the Ambient Light Rejecting screen paint is 0.71 at a 90° viewing angle.
Does the ALR screen paint perform well with both 2D and 3D projectors?
Our full range of paints is compatible with both 2D and 3D projectors, guaranteeing peak performance no matter the projection type. When a 3D image is projected onto the paint, it effectively reproduces the desired effect, providing an immersive experience when used with 3D glasses.
How does ALR Screen Paint Preserve Polarity?
3D projectors function by displaying two slightly different images that overlap on the screen. These images are filtered through special optical components that polarise the light differently for each projection. When viewers wear specific 3D glasses, each lens blocks one of the images, allowing the left eye to see one image while the right eye sees another.
Therefore, the projection screen mustn’t alter the polarity of the light when using a 3D projector. All the paint products are designed to be "polarity preserving," meaning that the image you observe will maintain the intended polarity, preserving the complete 3D effect.
Why are Smarter Surfaces Projection Paints Acoustically Transparent?
Our projection paints are acoustically transparent because they do not alter the sound absorption of the underlying surface. Independent testing on 12 mm gypsum board shows the Sound Absorption Coefficient remains unchanged (α 0.04-0.07) before and after painting, allowing sound to pass through naturally without distortion.
Safety & Environmental
Is ALR paint safe to use around people, and does it contain isocyanates?
Yes. ALR paint is safe for indoor use around adults and children. It is low-VOC, solvent-free, and contains no PFOA, PFOS, or isocyanates. The product is independently certified for fire performance and VOC compliance; gloves are recommended during application.
Is ALR paint flammable?
ALR paint is non-flammable and has been certified for its fire safety, making it suitable for use in home cinemas, gaming rooms, and living rooms. It has a very high flashpoint that exceeds 158 degrees Fahrenheit.
