How to Apply Clear Whiteboard Paint
Follow these simple steps for a professional installation and create a custom whiteboard surface.
1. Measure & Prepare
Measure the wall to have enough paint. Fill cracks, sand smooth, and protect surrounding areas.
2. Apply Primer
Apply 2 coats of clear primer on porous surfaces (3 coats for fresh plaster). Allow 2-4 hours drying time between coats and 12 hours after the final coat.
3. Mix Paint
Pour all Part A into Part B and stir for at least 5 minutes. Apply within 1 hour of mixing.
4. Apply Paint
Use a roller and a brush. Work in 1m sections: brush edges, roll evenly 10 times, inspect, and touch up as needed.
5. Dry & Cure
Touch dry in 5 hours; allow 4 days before writing. Surface performance improves over 30 days.

Is dry-erase board paint available in different colours?
Whiteboard Paint is available in both clear and white finishes. The clear version allows you to transform any coloured surface into a writable area while maintaining the original wall colour.
Can you use clear whiteboard paint as a projector screen?
Clear whiteboard paint can be used as a projector surface with short-throw projectors, although it was not designed for this purpose. For better image quality and performance, choose a Smarter Surfaces projection screen solution designed specifically for projection

Yes, magnetic paint can be used as a base product. We recommend browsing Smarter Surfaces magnetic products based on the level of magnetic strength required.

Can I apply clear whiteboard paint over coloured walls?
Our clear whiteboard paint is designed to be applied over colourful surfaces. We recommend painting full walls, as if only a section of a wall is painted, it may be noticeable, as ambient light will reflect differently from the surface of the clear whiteboard paint when compared to coloured paint. Not recommended for white and light colours with beige, vanilla and similar tones.
Can I apply clear whiteboard paint over white walls?
We do not recommend Smarter Surfaces clear whiteboard paint over a brilliant white coloured paint, as a slight yellowing effect can be caused by how light interacts with the white paint underneath the clear whiteboard. Whilst this can be very mild, almost unnoticeable in most cases, we recommend using Smarter Surfaces white whiteboard paint as it will give a brilliant white finish.

What roller should you use to paint Clear Whiteboard Paint with?
Each kit is supplied with a roller designed to be used with Clear Whiteboard Paint. For best results, apply paint using a mohair or lint-free short-pile roller sleeve. If you are using a mohair roller, remove all loose fibres before use.
Can clear whiteboard paint be applied to any surface?
Clear Whiteboard Paint can be applied to almost any smooth surface. This includes composites, glass, concrete, wood, and metal. A primer is not required if you are applying the paint over an existing coloured surface. However, for absorbent materials like natural wood or polished concrete, we recommend using Clear Primer as needed. Porous or dry materials such as plaster or concrete, and porous surfaces such as wallpaper, are also suitable when properly prepared. This paint is compatible with any colour except white. For a white finish, use White Whiteboard Paint instead.
Can you paint glass with clear whiteboard paint?
You can apply Clear Whiteboard Paint directly to the glass.
Can you use dry-erase paint on wood?
Yes. Ensure that the surface is smooth before application. Fill any holes with a filler. Apply Clear Primer before applying the Clear Whiteboard Paint. Sand after each coat of primer and reapply primer as required.
Can you use clear whiteboard paint on wallpaper?
Yes, painting over wallpaper is possible. You can apply clear whiteboard paint over smooth wallpaper only. Do not apply over textured wallpaper. For a white finish, apply 2 coats of Whiteboard Primer. For a clear finish, use 2 coats of Clear Primer if the wallpaper is porous.
Can clear whiteboard paint be applied around people?
Yes, it is completely safe to apply dry-erase paint around adults and children as it is certified as an extremely low VOC and low odour product. Clear whiteboard paint does not contain any isocyanates, which means it is extremely safe to use around people.
How to use your whiteboard surface?
Use your whiteboard surface with any normal whiteboard markers and accessories. We recommend maintaining the surface clean and not leaving the ink overnight if possible, especially for the first month. After the first month, periodically remove the buildup of marker residue with a standard whiteboard cleaner.

Why should I apply primer before applying Clear whiteboard paint?
Primer is only needed on absorbent surfaces such as natural wood or concrete to prevent the coating from peeling or soaking into the surface. Clear Whiteboard Paint is typically applied over an existing painted surface and does not require primer.
What type of heater can be used to speed up the primer’s drying process? Can an infrared lamp be used?
A normal fan heater can be used to speed up the drying process. An infrared lamp can also be used, but it can’t be placed too close to the surface.
Can you paint an existing whiteboard with Clear whiteboard paint?
Clear whiteboard paint is an ideal whiteboard repair product for most surfaces. Clear whiteboard paint can be applied directly onto existing whiteboards; just ensure all marker residue has been removed.
Can you paint on the floor with clear whiteboard paint?
Clear whiteboard paint has not been tested for slip resistance, and as with any painted finish, it could wear according to the traffic on it. The performance guarantee is for a dry-erase paint and does not extend beyond that.

Regular use of alcohol-based cleaners may weaken the surface and reduce its performance over time. Can I use permanent markers on Clear Whiteboard Paint?
No, just like a traditional whiteboard, Clear Whiteboard Paint is not compatible with permanent markers. However, if a permanent marker is used by mistake, the Permanent Ink Remover is specifically designed to remove it effectively.
How can I remove permanent marker from the surface?
One method is to write over the permanent marker with adry-erasee marker, which helps reactivate the ink. Wait two minutes, then wipe clean. If any stains persist, the Permanent Ink Remover is a specialised solution designed to remove permanent ink, tough stains, and ghosting from whiteboard surfaces.

Will the walls yellow in sunlight?
No, Clear Whiteboard Paint is highly UV resistant, which means the Clear Whiteboard Paint will not yellow, even in the brightest conditions.
Does the surface produce glare or a gloss effect?
Clear whiteboard paint has a gloss finish. If using a short-throw projector and you notice a bright spot or glare, simply adjust the angle of your projector to eliminate it. For an enhanced projection experience, consider the high-performance Projector Paints. If you need a surface that functions as both a whiteboard and a projector screen, Projector Whiteboard Wallpaper is an excellent choice.
Can clear whiteboard paint be used outside?
Yes. The product has been tested to withstand temperatures up to- 16 degrees Celsius and is UV light (ultraviolet) resistant. However, the area should be sheltered and dry to ensure the best performance. Please note that clear whiteboard paint should not be stored for an extended period of time below zero.

When applying Clear Whiteboard Paint, you must wear the gloves provided in the kit to protect your hands. Additionally, safety glasses should be used to prevent any accidental splashes. Also, as with any other painting process, make sure the room is well-ventilated to ensure a safe working environment.
