Customer Testimonials

See how hospitals, labs, and schools use Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint to create safe, hygienic, and collaborative writable surfaces.

The whiteboard wall paint was extremely easy to apply

The whiteboard wall paint was extremely easy to apply – and the customer service was accessible and helpful so I was delighted to give a review for this whiteboard paint and company! As a teacher you try to present as many different ways as possible to teach a concept and having the extra large dry erase wall helped us to teach concepts, facilitate games and student bonding and write instructions. We have no problem erasing everything with a multi purpose sponge eraser! It has been a HUGE learning tool for our classroom and we are forever grateful.

Turning Complex Workflows into Clear Action

At any one time I work on 8-10 initiatives and your dry erase marker paint has enabled me to better visualize what I need to do. It’s useful for brainstorming and process evaluation, so much so that we’ve recently purchased it for our marketing department. It’s a great fit for our company and a 5 start review for whiteboard paint.

FAQ's

General Product Questions

What is antimicrobial whiteboard paint?

Antimicrobial whiteboard paint from Smarter Surfaces is a new whiteboard paint that stops bacteria from multiplying on the whiteboard surface. It works by using silver ion antimicrobial technology to:

  • Interrupts bacteria and fungi cell metabolism
  • Inhibits cellular division
  • Disrupts transport across cell walls

Basically, it stops the bacteria from multiplying by stopping the membrane around the cell (like the skin of the cell) from working. Antimicrobial whiteboard paint is a great solution where many people and teams will use the whiteboard paint, and creating a safe working surface is a consideration.

Antimicrobial vs Antibacterial vs Antiviral. What’s the difference between antimicrobial, antibacterial and antiviral?

All bacteria are microbes, but not all microbes are bacteria.

Antimicrobials can refer to agents that deal with fungi and other microbes as well as bacteria. Antibacterial agents will only deal with bacteria. They are both different from antiviral agents.

Antivirals are specifically for things such as COVID-19, which are a different type of cell. The main difference being that the viruses tend to have a fatty envelope, so to kill viruses, you often have a two-part process where you basically have to get through the fatty part to get to the virus itself.

How does antimicrobial/antibacterial paint work?

Antimicrobial paint contains certain agents that destroy or inhibit the growth of microorganisms, especially those that are pathogenic.

Our antibacterial paint uses broad-spectrum antimicrobial technology that is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. We use a highly effective antimicrobial agent that is based on silver phosphate glass technology, which kills microorganisms and stops their growth. We have developed a new whiteboard paint technology specifically designed to combat the types of bacteria that would likely be found on a surface that is used as a whiteboard.

Our antibacterial technology is registered for use by the EU Biocidal Products Directive.

What does Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint work against?

Our antimicrobial whiteboard paint will work against: MRSA, MSSA, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

What is considered antibacterial? What are antibacterial agents?

An antibacterial agent is anything that destroys bacteria or suppresses their growth or their ability to reproduce. Antibacterial agents will only work against bacteria but will not be effective against viruses or fungi such as MRSA, MSSA, or Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Are there different colour options for dry-erase board paint?

Dry Erase Paint comes in two finishes: white and clear (transparent). The clear option allows you to maintain the existing colour or design on your wall while still providing whiteboard functionality.

Application & Usage

What type of roller should be used for applying Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint?

Each kit includes a roller specifically designed for use with Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint. For the best results, use a mohair or lint-free, short-pile roller sleeve. If opting for a mohair roller, ensure all loose fibres are removed before application.

Can Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint be applied to any surface?

Yes, it can be applied to most smooth surfaces, including glass, metal, concrete, and wood. It’s essential to prime the surface with White Primer or any high-quality water-based white primer.

Is Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint suitable for glass surfaces?

Yes. For a whiteboard effect on glass, first apply Smarter Surfaces White Primer.

Can dry-erase paint be used on wood?

Yes, but the surface must be smooth before application. Fill any holes with filler and apply White Primer before the Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint. Sand between coats of primer as needed.

Can Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint be applied over wallpaper?

Yes, but only on smooth wallpaper; avoid textured wallpaper. For a white finish, apply two coats of White Primer before painting.

Is Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, it has been tested to withstand temperatures as low as -16°C and is UV-resistant. However, for the best performance, the painted area should be in a dry, sheltered space. Note: antibacterial paint for walls should not be stored below freezing for extended periods.

Can Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint be applied to floors?

This product is not tested for slip resistance. Like any painted surface, wear and tear will depend on foot traffic. The performance guarantee applies only to its function as a dry-erase paint.

Can an existing whiteboard be repainted with Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint?

Yes, it’s a great solution for refurbishing whiteboards. Before application, clean the surface thoroughly and apply White Primer, as the primer is required before painting. For blackboards, wipe the surface with a damp cloth to remove chalk, then apply White Primer before finishing with Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint.

What can be used to speed up primer drying? Can an infrared lamp be used?

A standard fan heater can accelerate drying. An infrared lamp is also an option, but it should not be placed too close to the surface.

Can you paint over antimicrobial whiteboard paint?

In most cases, yes, you can paint over antimicrobial whiteboard paint. However, it's important to ensure proper adhesion and compatibility between the existing antimicrobial whiteboard paint and the new paint.

Surface Prep & Priming

Why is primer important before applying Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint?

Primer creates a smooth, even surface and acts as a sealant, preventing the paint from being absorbed into the wall. It ensures that the antimicrobial whiteboard paint adheres properly and maintains its functionality. In short, using a primer or sealer enhances the surface quality, providing optimal write-on-wipe-off performance.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Why are there shadows or large marks on my whiteboard?

Shadows or large marks often result from incorrect application or spreading the paint over a larger area than recommended. It’s important to follow the Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint application guide closely. The paint is formulated to cover the designated area and should not be stretched beyond the recommended coverage.

How can I remove shadows or large marks from my whiteboard?

For tough marks or shadowing, we recommend using the Permanent Ink Remover. This powerful cleaner is designed for occasional use rather than everyday cleaning. If you need further assistance, please send a photo of the affected area, along with your order number and total surface size (in square meters), to support@smartersurfaces.com.au

Is it safe to use alcohol to clean the Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint surface?

Frequent use of alcohol-based cleaners may damage the surface and reduce its performance. The specially formulated cleaning products are designed to maintain the quality of your whiteboard while providing effective cleaning. You can explore the full range of cleaning solutions here.

Can I use permanent markers on my whiteboard?

No, just like a standard whiteboard, Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint is not compatible with any permanent markers. If the permanent marker is accidentally used, the Permanent Ink Remover is recommended for removal.

How do I remove permanent markers from my whiteboard?

You may be able to erase a permanent marker by writing over it with a whiteboard marker. This helps reactivate the ink, making it easier to wipe off. Wait two minutes before wiping clean. If this doesn’t work, use the Permanent Ink Remover available in the web store. This specialised cleaner effectively removes permanent markers, tough stains, and ghosting from whiteboard surfaces.

Functionality & Performance

Will Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint yellow in sunlight?

No. It has been used in high-temperature regions like the Middle East and Australia and remains UV-resistant, preventing yellowing even in extreme conditions.

Can antimicrobial whiteboard paint be used as a projector screen?

While Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint is not specifically designed for projection, it can be used with short-throw or ultra-short-throw projectors. Many educational and business customers utilise it for both writing and projection. For optimal projection quality, we recommend using a dedicated projection screen solution.

Will the surface reflect light?

If you notice a glare or "hotspot", adjusting the projector angle should resolve the issue. For a high-performance projection surface, we suggest using the Projector Paint. If you need a surface that functions as both a projector screen and a whiteboard, consider the Projector Whiteboard Wallpaper

Can Magnetic Paint be used as a base layer?

Yes, we recommend using the Magnetic Paint or Magnetic Plaster as a base. For a quick and easy magnetic and writable surface, the Magnetic Whiteboard Wallpaper is an excellent choice.
